Eimear Finnegan holds a Master of Science in Systemic Psychotherapy (MSc) from University College Dublin and is a registered member of the Family Therapy Association of Ireland and the Irish Council for Psychotherapy. Eimear has a special interest in trauma and how childhood experiences influence our adult relationships and wellbeing. Family approaches range from individual, couple therapy and family sessions. A combination of individual, joint or family sessions is often required in the work.
Eimear’s therapeutic experience covers a range of themes including: child and adult anxiety, couple’s conflict, separation & divorce, depression and suicidal thoughts, work related stress, school/exam stress and anxiety, self-harm, eating and diet anxieties, gender identity, parent/child conflict and family conflict. Eimear has extensive experience working with children, teenagers, young adults, individuals, couples & family groups.
Family Genograms are often used in the work in introductory sessions as we unearth the “patterns that connect”, bringing further layers to the family story. This intergenerational diagram illuminates a number of themes that then informs the next stage of the work as we work towards new improved dynamics. The work also brings attention to other factors be they lifecycle stages (within the individual, relationship or family) and prominent discourses in society.
Prior to working in systemic psychotherapy, Eimear worked with children and young people in a number of social work settings. Eimear has over 20 years experiences working with children and families.
